A New Star Rising

1,000 piece puzzle featuring the artwork of Rusudan Khizanishvili

In A New Star Rising (2019) the Georgian painter Rusudan Khizanishvili, enmeshes the traditional mother and child theme with other archetypes—the dizzyingly colorful elements of folk art, the unrestrained forms of expressionism. Here, the literally golden child and his blue-haired mother are still front and center, because motherhood, to Khizanishvili, is sacred, serious, just like the looks on their faces. But there’s a looseness to the relationship, too. They’re a part of the fabric of the natural world, which is vibrant...except, that is, for the shadowy figure behind them, who may just be there to remind us that wherever there’s light and beauty, there tends to be darkness, too.

Included in the puzzle is an interview with Rusudan Khizanishvili and curator Nina Mdivani along with additional images of Rusudan's most recent work.

About the Artist

Rusudan Khizanishvili lives and paints in Tbilisi, Georgia and has exhibited widely in the West. Her work symbolically examines human individuality, external and internal forces that affect us, moments of passion and contemplation that constitute human personalities and are thoroughly unique. Questions of self-identification, transformation, trauma, rebirth are examined with raw, powerful color and idiosyncratic handling of forms.

Still hasn't arrived

I'm still waiting for the puzzles I ordered over a week ago. I love the quality when I buy in person but ordering from the website has been a nightmare.
